Laura, yes that is exactly the same as mine! My mother purchased a necklace and earrings. She also had the earrings made into necklaces for my sister and I. I was able to find another one via the internet after much searching. Good luck.

Janet & Carol I also have a blue moonstone w/a pagoda carving on the back, showing thru to the front. Does that describe yours? It was purchased in Chicago at the Palmer House in the 50's. I have been searching for another but have never been able to locate anything like it. My grandmother purchased it as a pair of earrings & had it made into 2 necklaces for my sister & myself. She has lost hers & I would love to replace it for her someday. Doubtful that will happen.

Janet, I also have a pagoda pendant that my mother purchased in 1955 in Japan. I have a co-worker who has one also. Her's is of a similar time frame. Have you found any more information?

It is important to take the stones to a reputable and experienced dealer, who will be able to give you more information. Ask around in your area for referrals, although it is unliklely that an one will have similar stones, they may well have experience of dealing with a jeweler that they recomend. If a jeweler or dealer can't help, they should be able to put you in touch with speciliasts. The Gemological Institute of America website is worth taking a look at (http://www.gia.edu)

Hello, My mother has a set of carved moonstone jewelry from 50-60's. She wore it to a gem show when we were involved in lapidary as kids in the 70's. A dealer proclaimed her stones as worth "an arm and a leg" due to the pagoda carving in them. From what she was told the artist was known for his intricate work which no one else was able to duplicate, including his son, after he passed. Where should we go to have the stones checked out or can you tell us anything?
